Mercedes’ Smart brand of tiny cars left our shores in 2019. Trying to sell Americans a diminutive vehicle with a wheelbase shorter than your arm was probably not the best move. Their sole model at the end of the brand’s American life was the electric ForTwo, which was apparently for NoOne. Well, don’t give up on them just yet. The brand just unveiled its poorly named but super-cool Smart Concept #1. The all-electric Concept #1 is more crossover-like than anything the brand ever sold here. And it’s more premium than previous offerings, as well. The fluid styling and thin lights give it a futuristic look, and even the floating roof is better than most versions we’ve seen, despite looking a bit like a WWII German soldier’s helmet. Huge suicide doors reveal an airy interior with a floating center console, ambient lighting, and bright white upholstery. Smart claims this will lead to an actual production model, and it’s just the kind of Smart that could actually take off here. Let’s hope it happens.
